Suddenly Last Summer 2012 (Korean GAY Movie)

Suddenly Last Summer focuses on the relationship between Sang-woo, a student, and his homeroom teacher, Kyeong-hoon. We learn in the film that the student had seen his teacher at a gay bar in Seoul. He then blackmails his teacher into spending a day date with him on a cruise down the Han river. Kyeong-hoon is obviously uncomfortable with this; grappling with his responsibility as a teacher and his desire to make love with his student set the tone for the short film.
(Kim Yeong-jae plays Kyeong-hoon, and I could definitely see why Sang-woo was smitten. Although he is somewhat of a butter face, his body was busting out of that button down. Yum.)

*Spoiler* Kyeong-hoon tries to rebuff his students advances, but in the end Sang-woo makes his way into his apartment. After a brief physical altercation, it appears that the two are going to do something physical in a more, um, romantic way. And with that, the film finishes (leaving me to undress Kim Yeong-jae in my imagination). *End spoiler*

Going South (Korean GAY Movie)

A road movie with Gi-tae who is going to terminate his military service and his senior, Jun-Young. Jun-young is driving to their military camp with Gi-tae on his way back to the camp after his last vacation. There is tension between them. When they get to a supermarket just in front of the camp, Gi-tae put a sleeping pill into Jun-young’s coffee. Finally, Gi-tae heads South taking Jun-young along with him while he is passed out. After a while, Jun-young wakes up and a secret gradually becomes known. Gi-tae is anxious to get Jun-young’s mind back. However, the mighty wall of harsh reality doesn’t allow him to do it. Can Gi-tae succeed in his plan to go South?

Kizumomo (Japanese GAY Movie)

This movie, under certain definitions, is not a gay, yaoi or "boy love" movie. Some consider it just to be "slice of life" Japanese guy movie. There's no hand-holding, no kissing, no play wrestling. I will withhold judgment regarding whether it is or not because I think the overall point has to do with intimacy and the struggle to it that involves two guys (with ambiguous sexual orientations).

The story is simple. Aki is a furita (freeter -- a young Japanese person who chooses part-time work over a salaried position). When he decided to ride his bike through the Japanese countryside, he quits his job and goes. Along the way, he helps a woman who almost loses her 32kg luggage down a pedestrian fly-over when his bike suffers some minor problem. She invites him to come to her house for the evening. There lives "Grampa", a master watchermaker and Masaya, the watchermaker's apprentice.

Aki and Masaya's relations get off to a somewhat mysterious rocky start -- although Masaya is prissy. We then come to learn through a wristwatch Aki wears that doesn't work, that Aki had a childhood friend/love of his life named Hayato who looks exactly like Masaya. The Aki-Masaya tension increases and we learn what has happened between Aki and Hayato.

Because I was expecting an awkward kiss, hand-holding moment, or similar, my mind had to recalibrate a few times to fully accept the narrative drama unfolding in the movie. Nevertheless, it's a G rated movie that you can cuddle with your partner on a date.

Timeline (Thai GAY Movie)

So this is not so much of a feature length movie as it is a collection of three shorts that may or may not in the very end, sort of come together as one narrative. Still not sure.  The first short was my favorite. There is nothing more exhilarating that experiencing a story of discovery and openness to vulnerability in love and sex with age-appropriate peers. So I liked it very much.

The second short turned out to be a thriller-horror type film and would have been interesting if the director had 80 minutes to flesh things out. But it ended up just being weird after the first short. There really is only so much one can do with allotted time and having to use a two minute flashback to explain the entire short, is well, unfortunate.

The third short would have been nice if it ended differently. I understand the martyr theme and they did it well. But what was weird at the end when the martyr ends up in the negative father complex twilight zone. Even if its not literal daddy incest, it certainly is symbolic and well its just weird. Especially after the psychologically pleasing first short. Maybe the director just needed another 10 minutes?

It's worth watching for the first feel good one and there are a lot of pretty young men so at least on the second two you aren't bored with ugly and bad actors.
